Overview
A simplified RR 310
is not all that the new TVS Apache RTR 310 is.
It boasts enough modifications to have a unique personality.
Aside from all the
mechanical modifications its sheer feature set makes it obvious that its
technological prowess can rival that of much larger bikes.
The competition has become more competitive though both in
terms of technology and the entire riding experience.
For example the recently released KTM 250 Duke has improved
in every way. To answer that we spent a lengthy time on the bike.
Style and Excellence
Particularly in this Fury Yellow color scheme the robotic
low slung front appearance muscular fuel tank with sharp extensions exposed
frame and pointed tail section attract attention from onlookers everywhere.
Its style meanwhile
could seem a little ambiguous and out of proportion to some.
In contrast to the remainder of the minimalist bodywork
which has clean and streamlined lines the front fascia appears large and
intimidating.
There are no issues
with the fit finish or general quality standards.
Everything has been assembled with strength and the paint
job and plastic panel quality give it a highend appearance.
Comfort and Ergonomics
You may ride in a
somewhat comfortable posture on the Apache RTR 310.
Even shorter riders
may get aboard with ease because to the seat height of 800mm. To reach the handlebar you squat somewhat
while sitting in a rather upright riding position.
The seat is
sufficiently soft although the footpegs are somewhat rearset.
Additionally there
are deep enough recesses in the gasoline tank to comfortably lock your
knees.
Every time the rider attempts to move behind the little hump
on the front of the pillion seat stabs them in the tailbone.
Additionally it
limits the amount of room on the seat.
Therefore on an
otherwise pleasant bike the seat room may be a small problem if youre a huge
person.
In contrast the ride
quality is nearly luxurious.
Potholes ruts and
other small undulations like road joints are almost completely leveled
down.
You just feel a minor shock to your back when you travel
through a deep pothole.
Additionally if the road is even somewhat uneven at higher
speeds the bike continues to bounce gently not uncomfortable.
As part of its
Dynamic Kit which costs Rs. 18000 TVS also provides an optional fullyadjustable
suspension configuration for those who wish to customize the ride to their
preferences.
Execution and Management
The same 312cc single
cylinder liquid cooled motor that powers the Apache RR310 also powers the RTR
310.
In addition to
changing the gear ratios TVS has made some small adjustments to the RTRs fuel
map intake and exhaust.
This results in a
very powerful midrange grunt from the engine which makes riding this bike in
the city a real pleasure.
From 4000 rpm there is a strong pull that lasts nearly to
the redline. However the bike feels
really fast between 5000 and 7000 rpm which is where the actual power is.
It will be easy for you to pass the majority of the cars in
the city. Additionally it is tractable
enough to cruise in sixth gear at 45 to 50 kmph with ease.
Additionally I didnt feel any hot air escaping from my legs
even in heavy traffic because to the effective heat management.
A smooth shifting
gearbox and a light clutch enhance the experience.
Now the quick shifter works very well for the most part if
you are too lazy to use the clutch.
The system is
enjoyable to use even if its not as smooth as the larger motorcycles and you
have to get used to the minor jolt during upshifts.
On the highway its the same story. You have enough power to pass without
downshifting even at 100 to 110 kmph when the engine is running near 6000 rpm.
Conversely there are
several places where the engine can perform better.
When accelerating the
throttle response is precise but when decelerating there is a sudden jolt. The vibrations are a big drawback for this
engine even if you can get used to it.
A noticeable buzz
begins at 5000 rpm and continues to grow as the revs rise. Even at 90 kmph vibrations are audible and at
100 kmph they become more severe.
However for a few minutes at least the feelings are not
completely annoying. But if I were going
on a trip that required me to ride it all day I would reconsider.
In terms of handling
this is a classic Apache.
Slicing through
traffic is a joyful experience because of its exceptional agility low weight
and fun nature.
With the chassis
feeling pretty responsive and expressive the bike is perfectly at home in
curves thanks to its acute handling qualities.
Not to mention the bikes handling is made even more
confident with the grippy Michelin Road 5 tires.
The front brake bite is rather powerful.
Under severe braking
it seems a little erratic but the stopping force is always sufficient. Curiously there are four actions you may do
to change the reach of the clutch and brake levers.
Technology and Features
You may use all of
its available power and torque which are 35.1 horsepower and 28.7 Nm in the
last three settings.
The performance is reduced to 26.7 horsepower and 27.3 Nm in
the Rain and Urban mode though.
The performance difference isnt that great when driving but
its still visible.
Using cruise control
which operates precisely and makes traveling on the highway a delightful
experience was something I especially loved.
Efficiency of Fuel
It should have a full
tank range of about 316 kilometers given its 11liter fuel tank.
Is It Worth Purchasing?
The Apache RTR 310 is
a good option if youre looking for a fun safe and technologically advanced
naked motorbike that costs less than Rs. 4 lakh.
It is currently new and not widely available which makes it
a unique offering that is appropriate for someone seeking something unusual.
The RTR 310 does city
jobs efficiently. It is an engaging city
motorbike because of its powerful midrange fun handling qualities commanding
sitting posture and light controls.
Additionally because of the grippy Michelin tires it tackles
the twisties with enthusiasm.
The strong vibrations
at higher speeds raise doubts about whether this is a decent touring
motorbike.
In summary the Apache RTR 310 is an excellent city bike thats perfect for quick weekend excursions.
