Rajesh Kumar have developed a deep connection with the world of motorcycles.
We rode the Vitpilen 250 Husqvarna Indias smallest model for
a few days.
Is the money worth it
though?
Overview
Its principles are
the same as those of the KTM 250 Duke.
This is our review of the 250 Duke which we have previously
done..
However how? And why
would you want to buy this? In the
little time we had with the bike we attempted to ascertain that.
Style and quality
Despite having vintage features like the circular LED
headlamp and the mirrors it readily stands out from the crowd because it has
the perfect proportions plenty of road presence
I recall how everyone
stared at the bike when I pulled up to the red light.
We even had some people stop by and ask me whether this was
a 500cc bike or an imported motorcycle.
The design box has
been validated by Husqvarna.
The Vitpilen 250s
long sweeping single body panel on the sides is by far my favorite feature.
And because the bike
doesnt have a lot of branding or bright colors or stickers it appears rather
clean.
Although it makes sense if the rear fender doesnt match the
overall design its function especially at this point in the monsoon season makes
it a necessary component. However once
the rain stops you may finish the tail configuration and the back profile will
look as good as the front.
The bike has a high end and satisfying feel because of its
plastic quality welds switchgear feel and feedback panel gap uniformity and
seat material.
Comfort and ergonomics
The Vitpilen 250
looks and feels like a true vintage naked motorcycle.
It has a sufficiently length flat single piece seat rear set
foot pegs and a tubular handlebar. .
However you dont
experience any cramping or strange pressure on your elbows or wrists.
The handlebar is really sufficiently broad to provide you
with plenty of control and command.
Even with a pillion
the seat is roomy enough for you to shift about if necessary.
You dont have to fight for level footing since the breadth
is appropriate and you get decent under
thigh support.
Overall the Vitpilen 250 is a really pleasant motorbike
whether youre riding it in the city for short distances or spending a lot of
time in the seat when traveling across states.
Execution and management
Due to their same
249cc single cylinder liquid cooled motor the Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 and KTM250 Duke operate identically.
It has a six speed gearbox with a bidirectional quick shifter
and produces about 31 horsepower and 25 Nm.
And boy The quick shifter is
adored by us.
If the roads permit
you may slam through the gears with the throttle pinned which enhances the
riding experience.
Furthermore the shift
in the exhaust noise after around 5500 rpm is noteworthy.
In addition the
engine has a strong punch at low rpm then in the midrange before tapering off
in the upper band.
When youre crawling
through city traffic you only need to tweak the mild clutch since the Vitpilens
engine seems tractable.
The Vitpilen 250s engine doesnt overheat which is perfect
for a quarterliter motor.
It was quite simple to maneuver in congested bump to bumper
riding situations and could easily cut through traffic at high speeds.
Making a complete Uturn without rolling back and forth is
made simple by the broad handlebar and turning radius.
Currently most of Mumbais roadways are in poor condition due
to the rainy season.
Naturally we were
able to test the suspension of the Vitpilen and discovered that the front forks
are sufficiently supple to absorb bumps without causing the driver to lose
control.
But after riding for a day or so we realized that the mono shock
performed better at faster speeds even if it first seemed a touch stiff.
The majority of the
bumps would be absorbed by the spring without causing significant strain on
your back.
Going over a pothole at city riding speeds may give you a
little kick but this may be lessened by lowering the speed if at all feasible.
The brakes and high speed
stability were the only features that we thought were a little odd.
The bike we acquired
had only completed 1400 kilo meters and the front brake pads were entirely worn
out after another 100 kilo meters.
It felt like the
brakes needed to bleed better when we were changing the pads and perhaps the
bite wasnt up to par because of the scratches on the front disc.
Additionally the Vitpilen began to shake violently at speeds
of 115 kmph and higher.
The wobble was still
quite noticeable even after we adjusted the air pressure and even changed to a
calmer road.
Technology and features
We have also been
impressed by Husqvarnas features section.
A USB charging
connector an LCD a bidirectional quick shifter ABS modes (road and super moto)
and full LED lighting are all included.
The speedometer odometer trip meter tachometer fuel level
readouts gear position indicator and many more essential readouts are also
included on the console.
All of these are
well organized and simple to use while riding.
We still wish though
that the company used smartphone connectivity for turn by turn navigation and
SMS and call notifications.
Efficiency of fuel
The Husqvarna Vitpilen
250 achieved 34.8 kmpl .
It was driven on
both city and highway roads in a variety of traffic situations.
You may anticipate an average range of 470 kilometers with
its 13.5liter fuel tank.
However depending on your riding style and the circumstances
the number may vary slightly.
Personal suggestion
We arent complaining
either because it still feels and rides like a whole other motorbike
Furthermore it
stands out from the competitors and from its Austrian relative because to its
vintage style. It has a fresh modern
design that is rarely seen on the road.
It is further
enhanced by the high quality construction that we like.
Nevertheless brand recognition and the relative road
presence of other 250cc motorbikes are some of the reasons why Husqvarna
motorcycles havent been especially popular.
It is adaptable and simple to live with since it can handle
tension and hassle free driving in urban areas or being driven at high
speeds.
Along with handling and comfort the heat control is
excellent..
This motorcycles riding quality has also been well maintained which raises its brownie points.
We havent discovered
any additional problems with the Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 except from the odd
wobbles at high speeds and the front brake pads inexplicable wear out.
However we are also awaiting Husqvarnas response on this.
These problems could
not affect all of the other devices though and might be an isolated incident.
Therefore we believe
that the Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 which retails for Rs. 2.19 lakh (ex showroom
Delhi) is a very worthwhile investment.
You are getting a
well made product a motorbike that turns heads a lot of fun and an interesting
riding experience for the stated price.
